'America's Next Top Model' discovered

CHICAGO, May 17: A Chicago native was tapped as "America's Next Top Model" on supermodel Tyra Banks' glamorous reality show, becoming the first Latina to win the competition.

Jaslene Gonzalez, 20, who said earlier in the season she was meant to be a model, bested finalists Renee Alway, 20, and Natasha Galkina, 21. As winner of the show's eighth cycle, she wins a year's representation by Elite Model Management, a $100,000 CoverGirl cosmetics contract, and a cover and six-page spread in Seventeen magazine, E! News reported Wednesday.

"Every little girl has a dream to be something," Gonzalez said, who tried out for the competition last season. "That shows to all young women, if you have that drive, keep going. Second time around, and I'm America's next top model!"
